The Story

A single phulkari sprig rises from the hem — a stalk of counted darning blocks opening into two or three faceted blossoms, then fading to a bud near the ribs. The riot of the bagh, edited to one bloom on open ground. Warmth, union, the joyful threshold.

Darned by a women's phulkari collective, Patiala. Named, credited, and paid for hand-work no machine can imitate.

Materials
  • Heavyweight cotton interlock, ivory ground
  • Untwisted floss silk (pat) — golden-mustard
  • A single saffron and leaf-green accent
Construction
Darning stitch worked from the reverse on a woven panel; direction-laid floats catch light as shade.
Care
Hand wash cold, dry flat in shade. Do not iron directly over the floss.
